Creston, California is a rural farm-oriented community located within San Luis Obispo County. Creston is approximately 10 miles east of Atascadero, nestled in the heart of California’s wine country. The climate is warm, friendly, and fairly rural in nature with quiet country lanes, rolling green hills, and plenty of sunshine. Many notable people have called Creston home including, writer L. Ron Hubbard, actor/producer, cinematographer Todd Fisher, and singer/actress/author Catherine Hickland.
 
The area that is now Creston was once a part of the Rancho Huerhuero Mexican land grant. Creston was named after a local land owner Calvin J. Cressy, who along with two other men bought Rancho HeurHuero and laid out the town. Boundaries were laid out and the lots were assigned numbers in 1890 and the town grew. In more recent years, Writer and Scientology founder and author, L. Ron Hubbard lived and died at his ranch near Creston. The Ranch is also the site of the Church of Spiritual Technology. The CDP was also the home of the Cardiff Stud Ranch (now known as Windfall Farms), which was owned by TV personality Alex Trebek. The ranch was home to many retired racehorses including Skywalker, Itsallgreektome, and many others.
 
As rural as the area is commuting is fact of life, local highways in or near Creston include California State Road 58, California State Road 46, California State Road 41, and others.
